Participants sought for Life Chain

The National Life Chain is being organized in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area of Chautauqua County by the Pro Life Committee of Chautauqua County. This event is scheduled to take place on Respect Life Sunday, Oct. 6 from 2 to 3 p.m. Thousands of people will line sidewalks across the nation, all silently holding uniform pro-life signs.

Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 60 minutes praying for the nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death. Life Chain is “church oriented and pastor-focused.”

The route chosen for the Life Chain will begin at Blessed Mary Angela Church (St. Hyacinth site) 295 Lake Shore Drive E. (Route 5), Dunkirk and head west to Central Ave. The Life Chain will then turn on to Central Ave. and continue south toward SUNY Fredonia.

Individuals, families, pastors and church organizations, senior organizations – anyone and everyone is invited to participate. It is suggested to bring water, lawn chairs, umbrellas and strollers. All are welcome and encouraged. Participants should call and let organizers know what part of the route they or their organizations would like to cover. Committee representatives Pat Morelle (965-2738), Phil and Sue Scherer (673-1237), Sandy Tapasto (366-3082) or Pat Johnson (934-2961) can be contacted.

The Life Chain will be a true prayer chain, where socializing, idle chatter and interaction with motorists will be withheld. On the back of the signs will be suggested prayers and meditations. This event will provide a visual statement of solidarity by the community in the Northern Chautauqua area.

All are invited for light refreshments in the Lyceum behind the St. Hyacinth’s church, Blessed Mary Angela Parish, 295 Lake Shore Drive, Dunkirk, starting at 3:15 p.m.

The Pro Life Committee of Chautauqua County is always looking for members. Their goal is to have representatives from all churches involved.
