Lady T’birds hold off Lady Billies

Tara Hunt’s 23 assists, three aces, 16 digs led the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds over the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies, 25-8, 23-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15, Tuesday in non-league girls high school volleyball.

“Chautauqua Lake is well coached and always plays hard,” Fredonia coach Chris Anderson said. “I have great respect for Joanne Meadows and the job she does with those kids. They are athletic for sure.”

Jenna Einink contributed with 27 kills, five blocks and 20 digs while teammate Ashton Albanesius charted 12 kills, 22 digs and five aces for the winners. Katie Meadows finished with 18 assists and 14 digs in the win.

The Lady Hillbillies were led by Mackenzie Tarnowski’s eight kills and three blocks, Maddie Crandall’s 18 assists and three kills and Leah Richir’s 23 digs. Emily Ludwig added five kills and two blocks in a losing effort.

CLYMER – Westfield-Brocton (3-7) got past Clymer (3-5) 25-22, 25-7, 23-25, 25-22 Tuesday in girls non-league volleyball action.

Marissa Okerland had 24 points, six aces, four kills and eight blocks to lead Westfield-Brocton while Lindsay Harp added 10 blocks, five kills and five aces.

For the Lady Pirates, Marissa Trisket had 10 points, four aces and a kill while Christy Reinwald added six kills, five points and an ace and Miranda Marucci charted five kills and three aces.

Clymer won the jayvee match.
