Foursome wins CCVB-Hogan Golf Tourney

CHAUTAUQUA – The 17th Annual CCVB-Don Hogan Memorial Golf Tournament took place at the Chautauqua Golf Club recently. Teammates Phil Klinginsmith, Mike Klinginsmith, Al Akin and Dan Akin took first place. The foursome shot a nine-under 63, edging out the second-place team led by Corey Pender. Corey Pender and brother Brian Pender, who are grandsons of tournament namesake Don Hogan, each fielded a team in the event.

The tournament raised $3,000 which will be used to establish a new Tourism Fund in support of attracting significant fishing competitions and events to the area. Previously, funds from the tournament provided scholarships for three to five college-bound high school seniors annually. Over the years, the tournament provided more than $39,000 to over 60 area high school seniors. The new direction to attract significant fishing events is in keeping with CCVB’s tourism mission and the interests of tournament namesake, Don Hogan.

Tournament players included multiple teams from Camp Chautauqua and family members of Don Hogan. Sponsors and prize donors included the Georgetown Capital Group, Larry & Lorraine Diggs, We Wan Chu Cottages, Hogan’s Hut, Terry & Mary Hogan, Don Hogan Grandchildren, Camp Chautauqua, Rexel Electric, Wayne Schimel, Bob & Alice Klos, Peek’n Peak Resort & Spa, Holiday Valley Resort, Chautauqua Golf Club, Mar Mar Wine & Spirits, Webb’s Resort, ERA Team VP Real Estate, Italian Fisherman, Chautauqua Marina, Mayville Tremaine Insurance, Irwin Bay Cottages, Chautauqua Landscaping, DFT Communications, Chautauqua Institution, WNY Guide Service, the Buffalo Bills, Carol Sorg, Andriaccio’s Restaurant, the Summer Wind, Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Center, Jamestown Audubon Center, Comfort Inn Jamestown and Klinginsmith Plumbing & Heating.
