Sorority makes plans

WESTFIELD – The Beginning Day social in August was held at the home of Barb VanDyke. An ice cream social followed a brief meeting.

The Sept. 16 meeting of the Laureate Alpha Pi Chapter met at the YWCA in Westfield. The chapter received an excellent “Three Star” rating from the Beta Sigma Phi International office. It was voted and passed to give a donation to the family of Damon Janes in Brocton. Thank you notes were received from Barb Weingart for the children’s clothing for the Westfield Central School’s nurse’s office, the Westfield Memorial Hospital for the Robert E. Storms walk, Patterson Library, the YWCA and Laureate Alpha Pi Scholarship recipient Mariah Culver. The evening’s program was “Ghost Stories of Chautauqua County,” presented by Amy Begier.

The Oct. 9 meeting will be held at the Westfield YWCA. Hostesses will be Pricilla Malarkey and Linda Bourne. The program “Spooky History of Chautauqua County” will be presented by Carol Best and Carol Link.

Oct. 13 will be a car rally and scavenger hunt. Chairpersons are Sue Smith and Begier.

The ongoing service projects for the group include collecting “Box Tops” from food products for the STAR program at Westfield Central School and collecting donations for the Anew Center for battered women and children in Jamestown. Each month for ten years, the sorority has been supporting the Center with women’s and children’s clothing, personal items and various household items. Elena Marsala will be taking items to the Center on Oct. 25.
