Swimming for a cause

SILVER CREEK -The Dunkirk-Fredonia-Silver Creek swim team fell 98-88 to the Olean-Portville Lady Huskies Thursday in Silver Creek.

Deidra Osula, Riley Drummond, Katie Webster and Mikayla Reynolds were all triple winners for DFSC.

Osula, Drummond, Wenster and Reynolds finished first in the 200 free relay (1:45.24) and the 200 medley relay (1:58.9). Osula also placed first in the 50 free (25.20). Drummond took first in the 100 backstroke (1:03.6) while Webster took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15) and Reynolds won the 100 free (1:00.25).

Members of the DFSC and Olean-Portville swim teams used the meet as a ‘Pink the Pool’ event to help raise mone to support the Olivia Coia Scholarship at Silver Creek Central School.

Coia was a teacher in the Silver Creek Central School District, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010.


Frewsburg 97, CLCS 86

MAYVILLE – Frewsburg had two double winners as the Bears defeated Chautauqua Lake, 97-86, in CCAA West girls swimming on Thursday.

Morgan Scarpino won the 50 freestyle and diving while teammate Heather Russell finished first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

For Chautauqua Lake, Abbey Jantzi took first in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:10.31 and Kara Tenpas touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:09.57.
