FHS?cruises past Southwestern, 5-1

LAKEWOOD – Morgan Genovese had a hat trick Thursday as Fredonia (8-3, 7-2) cruised to a 5-1 win over Southwestern during CCAA West girls soccer action.

Genovese got the Lady Hillbillies on the board in the 9th minute on an assist from Emily MacKinnon while Aleyna Szot made it 2-0 a minute later on a feed from Zoya Katta.

“It’s nice to come out and get that little bit of security right away,” Fredonia head coach Cathy Cruver said. “The girls were working on some finesse stuff and they’re getting better every (game).”

Devin Kowalewski scored unassisted in the 13th minute for a 3-0 lead while Genovese’s second goal, which came on an assist from Kowalewski with 15 minutes remaining in the half, gave Fredonia a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Hillbillies built a 5-0 lead eight minutes into the second half on Genovese’s third goal while the Lady Trojans finally got on the board with 25 minutes remaining as Nicole Cooper, on a feed from Emily Wuebbolt, broke up the shutout.

Alex Zentz was between the pipes for Fredonia, making five saves while counterpart, Britta Johnson, made eight saves in the loss.

Silver Creek-Forestville 4, Panama 0

PANAMA – The Silver Creek-Forestville Black Knights (7-1-1, 9-2-1) defeated the Panama Panthers 4-0 Thursday in a CCAA West girls soccer matchup. Emily Harford had two goals for Silver Creek-Forestville. Jade Lewis assisted on Harford’s first goal, which gave them a 2-0 lead. Janelle Cossin assisted on the final goal of the game off the foot of Harford.

Hannah Seiders opened the scoring off an assist by Trish Pfleuger. Shelby Harford had Silver Creek-Forestville’s other goal, the first of the second half, it was assisted by Irene Klemens.

Jamie Hehir recored the shutout in goal making 2 saves in the win.
