St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary Society

St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary Society Dessert Card Party will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the church Gathering Room. Community members are invited to join.

St. John’s United Church of Christ

St. John’s United Church of Christ will host “Germanfest” on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The event will include a themed basket raffle, live entertainment and more. Tickets are $10 each and can be reserved by calling 366-0710. The church is located at 733 Central Ave. in Dunkirk.

Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate one of Dunkirk’s proud cultures.

Pro Life Committee of Chautauqua County

The National Life Chain organized in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area of Chautauqua County by the Pro Life Committee of Chautauqua County is scheduled to take place on Sunday, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Thousands of people will line sidewalks across the nation, all silently holding uniform pro-life signs.

The route chosen for the Life Chain will begin at Blessed Mary Angela Church (St. Hyacinth site) 295 Lake Shore Dr. E. (Route 5), Dunkirk and head west to Central Avenue. The Life Chain will then turn on to Central Avenue and continue south toward SUNY Fredonia.

The Life Chain will be a true prayer chain, where socializing, idle chatter and interaction with motorists will be withheld. On the back of the signs will be suggested prayers and meditations. This event will provide a visual statement of solidarity by the community in the Northern Chautauqua area.

Cherry Creek/Leon United Methodist Church

On Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Cherry Creek/Leon United Methodist Church on Main Street in Cherry Creek will hold a fall outdoor pig roast and flea market.

Healing Hearts Ministries of Cassadaga

Healing Hearts Ministries of Cassadaga will be celebrating its first year in ministry with a special music service Sunday Oct. 6, at 10:30 a.m.

Music will be provided by the bluegrass gospel group, The Sprague Family. The Sprague Family is led by Pastor John Sprague of Jesus Way Home Church, 6358 Portage Road, Westfield, his wife Sharon, son Jeremy, and daughters Tonya and Melissa. There will be a pot luck dinner after the service. Those who are able are asked to bring a dish to pass.

St. Rose of Lima to hold Roast Pork Dinner today

As part of Forestville’s Fall Festival, St. Rose of Lima Church will host a Roast Pork Dinner from noon to 6 p.m. today at 11 Center Street.

Each meal includes roast pork, creamy potatoes, vegetables, tossed salad, cranberry applesauce and homemade pie. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children (child’s portion).

Holy Trinity Seniors

The Holy Trinity Seniors will hold their annual Halloween Party and meeting at Bob Evans in Dunkirk on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes. Each member will select his or her own meal.

Swiss Steak Dinner planned at Dunkirk United Methodist Church

Dunkirk United Methodist Church on the corner of Sixth Street and Washington Avenue will hold a Swiss Steak Dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. or until dinners are sold out.

The cost is $8 per meal and includes dinner, a beverage and dessert. Take-out and delivery are available. Call the church at 366-2230.
