Twenty years ago – 1993

Student of the Week is Emily West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles West of King Road, Forestville. A senior at Forestville High School, she is an active member of the school band. Emily is also an athlete who has participated in varsity basketball, cross country and track. Class treasurer, she is a member of the Honor Society and is a three time selection for “Who’s Who among American High School Students.” Emily plans to pursue a career as an elementary or music teacher.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Four Star Pizza in the Ames Plaza on Route 60 in the town of Dunkirk, opened for business on Sept. 18 and recently celebrated its grand opening. The pizza-only parlor features free home delivery in 30 minutes or less in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area. Kelly Cottrill, co-owner of the new business, noted that the local store is the 10th Four Star Pizza parlor to open. Four Star also has one other store in New York State with the rest in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Forty years ago – 1973

Lisa Corsi, Carol Ziegler, Julie Kirell, Wendy Meyer, Lisa Taylor and Brenda St. George were among those welcomed as new members of Brownie Troop 4 at the first regular weekly meeting at Grace Lutheran Church in Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago – 1963

The Rev. Lyman A. Jollay of Hempstead, L.I., has accepted the invitation to become pastor of the Assembly of God Church, 8 White St., Fredonia.
