Twenty years ago – 1993

Dunkirk resident Louis Ziegler was recently sworn into office as second vice president of the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association during an installation service in Wheatfield. Chester Tarnowski, president of Dunkirk’s Murray Hose Company 4, presented a gift to the outgoing association president, Robert Walker. Murray Hose 4 will host the association’s 1996 convention, which will be held in Dunkirk.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Bruce P. Patrono of 201 Newton St., Fredonia, general partner in Lakeside Equities, announced today that the partnership has purchased the former Hilltop Diner at 268 West Main St., Fredonia. The business is being converted into a mini-mart and gasoline station which will sell gas at competitive prices. The store and gasoline station will be known as One Stop. Mr. Patrono said they hope to have the business up and running by mid-November.

Forty years ago – 1973

Dr. Raymond Szukala, a Dunkirk dentist, heads the city’s Professional Division of the United Way Fund Drive which continues the remainder of the month. He and his wife Alice reside with their children at 25 Tenney St., Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago – 1963

New members added to the Fredonia High Times staff are Lionel Meno and Terry Conner, sports; Linda Beck and Linda McIlvain, features; John Kluge and Gerry Koba, inquiring reporters.
