Dunkirk: Special game and donation
Fans across the nation watched on television as their favorite National Football League teams donned pink towels, sneakers and caps to raise awareness for breast cancer during the last week. Even the famous yellow penalty flags thrown by the NFL officials were pink.
On Monday, the Dunkirk soccer team added a twist to their uniform on a day they made a difference. The team donned pink shirts with a ribbon and the name “Dunkirk” across it.
Stood out it did.
“The boys took the lead with this,” Dunkirk boys soccer coach Mike Green said after the team’s game against Maple Grove. “They set everything up on their own. It was a great effort on our team’s part. It was really nice. They were really excited. It’s something they wanted to do. They wanted to order pink shirts and do something good for the community. It was a nice moment for them.”
In addition to the dress, the team also presented Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo with a check for $1,000.
That’s a win no matter the game’s outcome.
