Dolores R. DeTolla

Dolores R. DeTolla, 84, of Silver Creek passed away Monday (Oct. 7, 2013) surrounded by family at the home of her son, Robert DeTolla, in Masury, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on April 3, 1929 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Gennuso) Scarlata.

A lifelong Silver Creek resident, Dolores graduated from Silver Creek Central School in 1947, then attended Bryant and Stratton College, graduating in 1948.

On Sept. 16, 1950, she married James A. DeTolla, who predeceased her on June 11, 2004.

Dolores worked for NYSEG from 1948-1955 and then worked at Silver Creek Central School, starting as a lunch monitor and working her way up to secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. In 1976, she decided to go back to school and proudly graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from SUNY Fredonia in 1987. She retired from Silver Creek Central School Dis-trict in 1996.

After retiring, she loved to stay active in many activities. She loved to volunteer and was an active member of many organizations, including the Town Planning Board and the CIAO club.

Dolores also was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where she lectored for many years. She loved to dance and spent many hours dancing. She was quick to embrace new technology that came out and was always willing to try new things.

Dolores is survived by her five children, sons James (Gail) DeTolla of Detroit, MI, Robert (Terri) DeTolla of Masury, Ohio; daughters Susan (Jeffrey) Badgley of Jamestown, NY, Carol (Charles) Horrigan of Grand Island, NY and Janice (Sam) Yun of Hummelstown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) DeTolla, Jennifer (Rob) Jones, Andrew De-Tolla, Jason and Steven Badgley, Aaron and Adam Horrigan and Derek Best; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Mahin) Scarlata of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Corinne Greco of Silver Creek; and an uncle, John Gennuso of Dallas, Texas.

Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY today from 4 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY. Interment to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek.
