WCA home names resident and employee for October

Jennifer Szalkowski is the WCA Home employee of the month for October. Jennifer grew up in the Silver Creek area and graduated from Cassadaga Valley High School. She successfully completed a C.N.A. (Certified Nursing Assistant) program and worked for nine years as an aide at Lake Shore Nursing Home. During these years, Jen developed a strong connection with the elderly patients that she assisted on a daily basis.

She attended ECC North Campus and received her AAS (Applied Associate in Nursing) degree in 2007. After graduation, she returned to the Lake Shore campus and worked on the Lake shore medical/surgical unit for a year and half. Jen then transferred to Lake shore Home Health Care and for over three years provided care to elderly clients in their individual homes. She left home care and worked for a year in the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) as an Emergency Room nurse. A little over two years ago, she transferred to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.

Jennifer resides in Dunkirk with her husband, Lee, her daughters, and is expecting a new daughter this December. While at home, she enjoys her family and life in general. She enjoys kick-boxing, taking walks and going to her daughters’ soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball games.

Pat Peters is the WCA Home resident of the month for October. Pat was born in Gowanda and raised in Cattaraugus. She graduated from Cattaraugus High school. After graduation Pat started a family and eventually had six children and two stepchildren. Pat moved to Fredonia almost 50 years ago. Pat’s father was mayor of Cattaraugus and she became very active in local Fredonia politics, including running for local office. While raising her children, Pat was a Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader. After most of her children had grown and left home, Pat began a long career with the Girl Scout Council as a field executive. Pat earned a bachelor’s degree in business at Fredonia State College. After retirement, Pat worked in retail many people remember her from Joann Fabrics in Lakewood! Pat’s family has grown over the years and she now has 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Pat came to The WCA Home in August of this year. She says that her favorite part of living here is that the staff takes such great care of her.
