City man in jail after shooting
A Dunkirk man was arrested and charged in a shooting that occurred in the city Thursday afternoon.
Nathaniel D. Hollins Jr., 22, was charged with second-degree assault, a Class D felony; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony; and second-degree criminal use of a firearm, a Class C felony. His last known address was 57 Ruggles St., according to Dunkirk Police.
The unidentified victim sustained a single gunshot wound to his upper left leg in the incident which occurred in the 100 block of South Beaver Street around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Police received a call from Brooks Memorial Hospital at 1:41 p.m. that there was a gunshot victim in the emergency room.
Patrol and detective division officers responded and initiated an investigation with the victim. Officers began an intense followup investigation and by 3:33 p.m. took Hollins into custody. He was transported to Police Headquarters and locked up on the above charges. The detective division, along with both the 7-3 and 3-11 shifts patrol divisions participated in the investigation, which is ongoing.
Hollins was arraigned before City Court Judge Walter Drag Thursday evening and was sent to the County Jail in Mayville.
