Local dogs become good citizens

Perfect Pooch Dog Training is proud to celebrate the recent graduation of three dogs and their owners from the AKC Canine Good Citizen training class. This program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Title is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. The class is a natural step up from Basic Obedience and AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy.

“The state of New York has already passed a resolution endorsing the AKC Canine Good Citizen program, recognizing that responsible dog ownership is the key to resolving problems in the community,” said Kristin Yonkers, AKC Approved CGC Evaluator and owner of Perfect Pooch Dog Training located in Brocton, New York.

“As newly certified AKC Canine Good Citizens, these dogs and their owners have taken a very important step to ensuring proper and safe behaviors in the community,” continued Yonkers.

To earn their AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificates the pet owners enrolled their dogs into the optional prep class hosted by Perfect Pooch Dog Training which was instructed by Yonkers and passed all 10 items of the test. Classes highlighted valuable training tips for successfully mastering aspects of the AKC Test including sitting politely for petting, walking through a crowd, positive reactions to distractions, and staying calm while being supervised by a friendly stranger. The prep program is open to all dogs that have completed Basic Obedience. The AKC test is available to all dogs and their owners. Many companies that provide homeowner’s insurance will offer a discount after a dog is certified as a Canine Good Citizen.

The recent canine graduates and their owners received AKC paperwork to redeem for a frameable certificate and a Medal of Honor. The AKC Canine Good Citizen Test is open to all dogs with or without AKC registration.
