Pine Valley gives Fredonia a battle in 2-1 defeat
SOUTH DAYTON – The Fredonia Hillbillies rallied past the Pine Valley Panthers, 2-1, Tuesday in a competitive non-league boys high school soccer game.
The Panthers got on the board first as Alex Kelly scored on a penalty kick at the 15:26 mark.
However, nearly 1:30 later, Matt Sheridan scored to tie the score 1-all. Bryce Gifford was credited with an assist.
In the second half, Sheridan netted the game-winner as Kyle Leysath had the assist.
Noah Voss was the winning goalie with five saves. For Pine Valley, a trio of goaltenders, led by Russell Hayes, split time in net.
“Pine Valley played phenomenal,” Fredonia coach Brett Gould said. “We were very flat. Give credit to Pine Valley. We have to raise our game if we want success in the playoffs.”
Fredonia plays at Chautauqua Lake on Thursday.

MAYVILLE – The Silver Creek Black Knights (6-6-3, 6-3-2) and Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds (2-9-3, 1-7-2) battled to a 1-1 deadlock Tuesday in non-league boys high school soccer action.
Silver Creek got on the board first as Kevin Wood scored off a feed from Derek Catalano at the 29:12 mark of the first half.
The Thunderbirds responded as Abdullah Khalid scored unassisted with 38 seconds left to escape with the tie.
Adam Klajbor made eight saves for the Black Knights.
