Peter J. Scott

Peter J. Scott passed away peacefully on October 14, 2013 at the age of 94 in the Chautauqua County Home. He was born in Lockport, NY on April 6, 1919 to James and Rose (Moavero) Scott (Scaccia).

He served in the US Army during World War II beginning March 27, 1941, serving on the European front. He was given an honorable discharge on September 14, 1945.

On July 9, 1947, he married Carmella Valone. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Vineyard Restaurant in 1997 with their immediate family in attendance.

Pete was a member of the Valone’s Meat Market family for over 40 years after moving to the Dunkirk area in 1947. When asked what he did for a living, with a twinkle in his eyes and a chuckle in his voice he would reply, “I’m an “MD”… a “meat dealer.” He also owned and operated Peter J. Scott Sales. You would see him annually during the Chautauqua County Fair making paper product deliveries to the various vendors with a smile on his face and a kind comment for those he met. He also enjoyed delivering to local organizations, churches and clubs.

He was a member of Holy Trinity RC Church, serving as an usher for many years and was a former member of the Men’s Association. As a lifetime member of the Columbus Club, he served as treasurer for close to 50 years. He was instrumental in relocating the club to its present location.

Known as a gentle and kind man, he always had a quick pun and a smile. The Bills were his team of choice, but he never missed an opportunity to attend his grandsons’ football games. He received a Sports Booster Club Award from Dunkirk High School for his many years of service for delivering pizza and paper products to assist them in their fund raising efforts.

He will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, father and friend. He delighted in seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He “had the touch” when it came to putting the grandchildren and great grandchildren to sleep.

Surviving are his three children: James (Lisa) Scott from Jackson, Michigan; John (Shirley) Scott from Dunkirk, NY and Rose S. Prinzi from Jamestown, NY. Grandchildren include: Sorah (Chris) Barnes, Tovah (Nicholas) Sheldon, Joshua Scott, John James “JJ” (Courtney) Scott, Megan (Michael) Miller, Michael (Tiffany) Prinzi and Christopher Prinzi. Great Grandchildren include: Jamison, Jackson and Jillian Barnes; Wilson and Amari Sheldon; Wyatt Scott; Elouise Miller and Colton Prinzi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on March 28, 2003; his two sisters, Mary and Camille; and his brother Joseph.

No visitation hours will be observed. A private entombment service was held. A celebration of Pete’s life and a Mass will be held at the convenience of the family sometime in late November.

In lieu of flowers, dona-tions can be made to St. Vincent’s Adult Retirement Home, 319 Washington Ave., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
