DHS upends Falconer in CCAA?West action
The Robles brothers helped lead Dunkirk (3-11-1, 3-9-0) past Falconer (7-7-1, 5-6-1), 2-1, in CCAA West boys soccer action, as Antonio was assisted by Nelmy on both of the Marauders’ goals Wednesday at Karl Hoeppner Field.
“Coming in, we only had one guy on the bench,” Dunkirk head coach Mike Green said. “They didn’t use that as an excuse. They played hard and we’ve been struggling to score all year. (Wednesday) we had a lot of opportunities in the first half, but in the second half, Antonio pretty much put the team on his shoulders and scored two big goals for us.”
Antonio’s first goal came in the 55th minute to tie the game while his second goal, with 53 seconds left, gave the Marauders the lead.
Tobi Culpepper scored 15:15 into the first half to give the Golden Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Nick Thompson made four saves for the Marauders between the pipes while Trevor Dykstra stopped seven shots for the Golden Falcons.
North Collins 2, Cattaraugus-Little Valley 0
NORTH COLLINS – Vincenzo Giancaspro scored 12 minutes into North Collins CCAA Central boys soccer match against Cattaraugus-Little Valley and the Eagles (10-2-2, 9-1-2) went on to win 2-0.
“We tied them the first time we played them,” North Collins’ head coach Jay Walters said. “Which cost us a chance at the (division title). We jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then had some good chances in the second half, but couldn’t capitalize. But it was a good win for us.”
David Lynch scored on a penalty kick 29 minutes into the first half for the Eagles’ final goal, which was more than enough for Nathan Turnbull and David Fera to work with, as the duo combined to save four shots and earn North Collins’ 12th shutout in 14 games.
