Driver charged in car fire

VILLENOVA – A driver has been charged following a car fire on Route 83 on Sunday. Valerie A. Roach, 28, of Silver Creek was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain lane. Roach was allegedly intoxicated when her car left the road and caught on fire. Roach was pulled from the vehicle by a deputy and a passerby. She was flown by Starflight to ECMC.

Additional charges are pending the results of a blood test that was secured following the accident which take several months to be returned. At this time, the investigation is complete.

Frewsburg fire ruled accidental

FREWSBURG – A Monday fire on Rice Avenue has been ruled accidental. According to the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team, combustibles were too close to a chimney pipe which was located in the garage of a residence at 3 Rice Ave. Frewsburg Fire Department responded to the fire call at 5 p.m.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

Douglas Schwertfager, 56, of Berry Road, Fredonia was charged with no or inadequate headlights and driving while intoxicated on Tuesday. At 7:38 p.m. deputies observed a vehicle operating on Route 60 in the village of Fredonia without any headlights. The vehicle was stopped and Schwertfager was allegedly intoxicated. He was released to appear in Fredonia Village Court at a later date.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office

LEON – Ryan R. Rodriguez, 21, of Irving was charged with driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to keep right and failure to maintain lane on Saturday. Deputies stopped Rodriguez’s vehicle on Mosher Hollow Road where he was found to be allegedly intoxicated. He was released on appearance tickets for Leon Town Court.
