Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course

Wednesday Travel League – Kerry Murphy and Ed Tofil each shot the low round of 80 under soggy conditions at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course. Murphy was the overall winner on the third tiebreaker hole. For Tofil, it was his 10th tour victory of the season and 30th for his career. Murphy had the low front-nine score with 38 while Joe Michalski and Tofil each had the low back nine score with 41. John Waterman was the B Flight winner. The winner of the Commissioner’s Award was Doug Newman.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight – Tofil (No. 1), Jeff Kubera (Nos. 6, 11, 14), Mick Dunning (No. 8), Murphy (No. 9) and Dave Criscione (No. 12). B Flight – Len Leszkowicz (Nos. 2, 16), Waterman (Nos.3, 5, 10), Kurt Wolnik (No. 11), Bob Thompson (Nos. 12, 3) and Pat Weaver (Nos. 14, 18). Closest to the pin were John Bongiovanni (Nos. 4, 8, 12, 16) and Gary Richardson (No. 6). Bongiovanni became the first player in league history to record four closest-to-the-pins in a single round.

Top point winners were Bongiovanni (36), Kubera (29), Waterman (18) and Dunning (17). Season points leaders: Tofil (508), Thompson (396), Michalski (379), Dave Franklin (354), Criscione (348), Richardson and Kubera (330), Murphy (272), Waterman (256), Pete Gawron (207).

Next week the league returns to Chautauqua Golf Club, this time to play the Hill Course. Tee-off is at 9:30 a.m. Golfers should sign up with Butch Mackowiak (679-4027) by Monday.

In the first City League game since 2009, Team Fresh beat LHDC, 42-6, on Saturday. Also, First Ward Falcons beat Those Guys 42-36 while Jenna’s Fourth Street Cafe beat LHDC 12-6 Wednesday.

to Air Tonight

Tonight’s high school football contest between the Fredonia Hillbillies and Dunkirk Marauders will feature play by play by Ed Eaker, who will be joined by color analyst Greg Krauza. The game can be seen on channel 12 in Dunkirk and channel 5 in Fredonia.
