Horrigan urges legislators to rise above politics in County Home vote
Chautauqua County Executive Candidate Vince Horrigan is ready to move forward and approve the private ownership of the Chautauqua County Home to the proposed new owners. “After visiting their nursing home near Binghamton last month and talking to the employees, residents and families, I came away assured that the quality of nursing home care was excellent. Then after listening to the new ownership team at the Legislature meeting Wednesday evening, I am convinced that Mr. Farbenblum and his team will actually expand health services and grow our jobs through the addition of assisted living options, as well as other health care specialized services. I was heartened to hear that they will be interviewing all of the current employees who apply and pass a background check and then adding nursing staff, while ensuring that the quality of care remains foremost in their decision-making process. Finally, it was also good to hear that they are nearing agreement with CSEA in their newly acquired Ulster County Nursing Home, which is the labor union that currently represents our Chautauqua County Home workforce,” Horrigan said.
He continued, “In spite of these positive developments, I was quite disappointed by the discussion at Wednesday evening’s legislature meeting that centered on the role of the November 5th election on the County Home privatization vote. How could we in Chautauqua County sink to a point where some legislators could vote one way prior to November 5th, only to vote differently after the election? No matter how we stand on the County Home issue, we owe the voters of Chautauqua County honesty above all. I urge my fellow legislators to rise above self-serving politics and vote their conscience based on those they represent and what is in the best interest of the citizens of Chautauqua County. Integrity first – politics last!”
