Healthy Dunkirk takes third at Eden?Invite
EDEN – The Dunkirk Marauders boys’ cross country team is getting healthy at just the right time.
With a full and healthy lineup, the Marauders took third place Friday at the Eden Red Raider Invitational.
Frontier took first place with 34 points while Lake Shore placed second at 112. Dunkirk was third at 114. Fredonia placed fifth with 150 and Silver Creek followed at 154.
Javier Soto led the way as he finished the 2.9-mile course fourth at 16:50. Ethan Francis placed 10th at 17:20 while Ray Tarnowski was 16th at 17:38. Alec Tomaszewski took 30th at 18:09 and Ray Logan was 59th at 19:09.
“We couldn’t be happier,” Dunkirk coach Kurt Warmbrodt said. “Everyone is back healthier with no illnesses.”
For Fredonia, Josh Goodhue took 13th at 17:27.90 and Stephen Formanowicz took 19th at 17:42.90. Mike Meredith finished 26th at 18:00.62 and teammate Ryan Meredith was 49th at 18:43.37. Nick Arcoraci took 53rd at 18:50.78.
“Josh Goodhue turned in a strong performance, as did Formanowicz,” Fredonia coach Carol Zirkle said. “Arcoraci ran his best race of the season.”
The Black Knights were led by Jake Mullen’s 17th-place finish with a time of 17:39.21. Caleb Makuch was shortly behind with a time of 17:46.87, good for 21st place. Jakob McDaneld was 35th at 18:15.62 and Tyler Steklasa was 45th at 18:34.55. Jack McAlevey rounded out Silver Creek’s top five as he placed 47th with a time of 18:35.40.
On the girls’ side, Silver Creek placed third with 85 points. Hamburg took first with 57 and Frontier placed second at 59. Fredonia took sixth at 131.
Emma Seiders led the Black Knights with a fourth-place finish, as she crossed the finish line in 19:42.43. Sister Hannah Seiders took 10th at 20:17.90 while Rachel Radack took 18th at 21:12.87. Sarah Adams placed 24th a 21:44.68 and Claire Castiglia took 32nd place at 22:34.99.
The Lady Hillbillies were led by Michaela Tramuta’s sixth-place finish with a time of 19:52.55. Teammate Gwen Stokes was two places behind Tramuta with a time of 20:02.84. Mary Polvino was 44th at 23:02.62, Skylar Salim was 45th at 23:03.62 and Maitland Langworthy was 46th at 23:05.08.
“Once again, Michaela Tramuta ran a strong, consistent race,” Zirkle said. “Gwen Stokes also ran a good race.”
All the local school will now prepare for the County meet next Friday at Long Point State Park.
