Twenty years ago – 1993

According to information released recently by the State University of New York (SUNY), Jamestown Community College ranked among the top five SUNY community colleges for a five-year period in the number of students who transferred to SUNY four-year institutions. In fall 1991, the number of JCC transfers to the SUNY College of Fredonia ranked first among all SUNY community college transfers in that year.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Wayne Saxton of Cassadaga has been named “Rookie of the Year” at the annual New York Dairy Herd Improvement Cooperative supervisor seminar in Syracuse. Mr. Saxton was cited for service to members, professionalism, sales accomplishments and overall contribution to the cooperative. Mr. Saxton visits 45 dairy herds monthly, collecting milk samples and maintaining management records for 2,700 cows in Chautauqua County.

Forty years ago – 1973

The wooden sculpture of the American Indian at the water treatment plant grounds in Dunkirk is being dedicated today. According to Mayor Clem Lutz, this is American Indian Day in Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago – 1963

S. Gordon Corter of 5 Lowell Place, Fredonia, was announced as the winner of the free trip in the Dunkirk-Fredonia Plaza Association’s “prize give-away,” in honor of the plaza’s fourth anniversary.
