Audrey Marie Dobek-Bell
Ms. Audrey Marie Dobek-Bell, 68, of 110 Trowbridge St., Cambridge, Mass., died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born in Dunkirk, NY, on October 16, 1945, daughter of Joseph and Martha (Chrabascz) Dobek. She attended school there and graduated from the Cardinal Mindszenty High School. Audrey graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1967 and later completed courses at Middlebury College, U. Mass-Amherst and Lesley College.
She was employed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 33 years, most recently at its Sloan School of Management. Earlier, Audrey had spent a year working as a governess for two families in Spain and France. She then taught sixth grade at Eden Middle School in Eden, NY, and also taught sixth grade at the International School at The Hague in Holland. In addition, she did substitute teaching at Williamstown Elementary School and held a number of part-time clerical and research jobs at Williams College, among them as an assistant to astronomy professor Jay Pasachoff. Audrey enjoyed languages, movies, European travel, eating well, cooking, going for walks with her husband, spending time with her extensive family and, last but not least, reading and studying and giving away gifts of children’s literature.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Bell-Villada, whom she married on August 9, 1975. She also leaves three brothers, including Joseph Dobek and his wife Suzanne of Travelers Rest, S.C.; Patrick Dobek and his wife Linda of Dunkirk, NY; and James Dobek and his wife Mary of Jamestown, NY; sister-in-law Mary Dobek; aunts Irene Pincoski of Dunkirk, NY, and Mary Dobek of Pittsburgh; an uncle, Joseph Carrus of Dunkirk, NY; and nieces and nephews, including Christopher (Amy) Dobek, Elizabeth (Jon McNett) Dobek, Kathryn, Jacob (Kelly), Stephen, Abigail and Matthew Dobek; Jennifer (Edward) Hayes, Jeffery Dobek, Jeremy (Molly) Dobek and Joshua Dobek; grand nieces and nephews, Colby, Brady, Mariusz, Madilyn, Luke Dobek and Ava McNett; and Rachel, Nicholas and Riley Hayes; and many cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Dobek.
On her husband Gene’s side, she leaves brother-in-law Kanani (Susan Williams) Bell and sister-in-law Valerie Bell; and nephews-in-law Sebastian Bell; and Drew, Samuel and Daniel Watkins.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Audrey Dobek-Bell will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Thompson Memorial Chapel on the Williams College Campus. Burial will follow in the Williams College Cemetery.
