Twenty years ago – 1993
Rainy’s Family Hair Care salon recently opened at 20 Orchard St. in Fredonia, replacing the former Executive Hair Salon. Rainy’s actually opened its doors in early September in an effort to provide continuity for previous Executive customers but additional improvements were made and Grand Opening specials continue, according to new owner Lorraine Derby. Rita Augello, former owner of the Executive and Joy Hite, also previously with the Executive, have joined Mrs. Derby in the new business venture.
Thirty years ago – 1983
Buffalo Mayor Jimmy Griffin recently attended a fund-raising event for Dunkirk Mayor Edwin Gregoreski and spoke out on his behalf. “Ed has done a great job as mayor of Dunkirk,” Griffin said, adding that he has the same problems in Buffalo that the mayor has in Dunkirk: the development of the harborfront and the alleviation of massive unemployment.
Forty years ago – 1973
Paul K. Cooley, Cassadaga Valley Central School newspaper adviser, was one of 34 teachers and publications advisers to be named runner-up in the national “Journalism Teacher of the Year” awards.
