Lake Erie Wine Country welcomes two new wineries to harvest wine weekends

MAYVILLE – Mazza Chautauqua Cellars has been in operation in May-ville since 2005. They have recently moved that winery operation into a new facility in Westfield, featuring an expanded distillery and a new craft-distilling brand, Five & 20 Spirits.

Visitors can taste from their selection of fine wines and from a new line of small-batch distilled products as they peer out onto acres of surrounding farmland, which will soon be home to grains used for spirit and beer production. Expect to see new product offerings throughout 2013 and beyond, along with a brewery to be launched in 2014. Mazza Chautauqua Cellars is located at 8393 W. Route 20 in Westfield. They are a sister winery to Mazza Vineyards in North East, Pa. The Mazza family has been active in the regional wine industry for more than 40 years.

Arundel Cellars & Brewing Co., located at 11727 East Main Road in North East, Pa., is in the process of restoring a beautiful late 19th century barn which for three generations was operated as a cider mill. The owners purchased the barn in 2012, along with 150 acres of vineyards and apple orchards. The staff and owners of Arundel have a rich history in both the wine industry and in viticulture. With over 100 combined years of experience, they are sure to bring excellent wines, ciders and brews to Lake Erie Wine Country. Although the barn is not quite complete, Arundel Cellars & Brewing Co. will be open for the next Lake Erie Wine Country event, so participants can see the facility and enjoy wine tasting in a heated tent.

Both new wineries will be participating in Lake Erie Wine Country’s Harvest Wine Weekends, Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 8-10. Ticket holders will visit 24 participating wineries where they can enjoy a special wine paired with a delicious “harvest” food sample. As in the past, ticket holders will also receive additional tastings, a wine glass, recipe booklet, a $5 voucher and a gift. This year’s gift is a set of wooden LEWC coasters.

Ticket holders will plan their own itinerary, enjoying each winery at their leisure. Transportation is not provided. Tickets are now on sale for the Harvest Wine Weekends at $35 per person. One ticket is good for either Weekend No. 1 or Weekend No. 2. One ticket is good for all three days. They may be purchased online at Designated driver tickets are available for only $20 and include everything except wine.

Advanced-sale ticket purchase is recommended as tickets are limited, and they are usually sold out before the event begins.

Tickets for Weekend No. 1 on Nov. 1 to 3 are sold out.

Harvest Wine Weekend No. 2 takes place on Friday, Nov. 8 from noon to 5 p.m. and continues on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
