Josephine Valone, 100, formerly of 627 Washington Ave., Dunkirk, NY died Saturday evening (Oct. 19, 2013) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk after a short illness. She was born July 29, 1913 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Mamie and Vincent Tremonte. A homemaker, Josephine assisted her late husband, Russell Valone, at the Valone Meat Market of Dunkirk and Fredonia, NY. She was a member of the Dunkirk First Baptist Church where she taught
Bible Class to the children. A board member of Central Christian Academy, she faithfully promoted the Bible (God’s Word) and was a member of Gideon International. Josephine also belonged to the Dunkirk (Ladies) Lions Club and the Fredonia Kiwanis Club, which awarded her the Elder Salute for her commitment to the community. Survivors include one son, Vincent (Mary Ann) Valone of Fredonia, NY and her grandchildren, Russell, Valerie and Richard Valone, all of Fredonia, NY.
Besides her husband, who died in 2002, and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George Valone; and siblings Jessie Price, Marion Gunginger, Theresa Pellegrino and Rose Young, all of Huntington Beach, Calif., Patrick Tremonte of Seminole, Fla., and Margaret Rizzo of Buffalo, NY. Funeral services will be held Friday at the First Bap-tist Church, Central Avenue, Dunkirk at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Gage officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the Funeral Service and may call at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main St., Fredonia, NY on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Interment Willowbrook Park Cemetery, Dunkirk, NY.
