Twenty years ago – 1993

The Sheridan Town Board has decided not to change the name of New Road after receiving a request from the Sheridan Fire Department to do so. The request stems from past confusion with Newell Road, also in Sheridan, in dealing with emergency calls. Prior to the board’s decision, a petition was presented from 14 full-time residents of New Road who felt that changing the name of the road was unnecessary.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Samuel Baglia, manager of McDonald’s of Fredonia, was honored with McDonald’s Manager of the Year Award recently. The award recognizes McDonald’s managers who have achieved outstanding standards of quality service and cleanliness in their stores. Mr. Baglia graduated from McDonald’s Hamburger University in September 1978. He was named manager of McDonald’s of Fredonia in June 1980. He and his wife Cindy reside in Stockton.

Forty years ago – 1973

John J. Buczek III’s cat “Skipper” and her four 7-week-old kittens are “Pets of the Week.” John is the 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Buczek Jr., Route 60, Fredonia.

Fifty years ago – 1963

A two-day celebration was recently held by the Silver Creek Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1307 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the lodge.
