Postseason matchups set
The Section 6 girls volleyball playoffs began Wednesday with pre-quarterfinal matches in Class C and Class D.
In Class C, No. 17 Tonawanda was at No. 16 Cassadaga Valley and No. 19 Gowanda was at No. 14 Cleveland Hill while in Class D, No. 15 Pine Valley defeated No. 18 Brocton-Westfield in three games and will face No. 2 Randolph on Friday in pre-quarterfinal action.
Chautauqua Lake earned the top seed in Class D and earned a bye. The Lady Thunderbirds play the winner of Wednesday’s match between No. 17 MST and No. 16 West Valley. That match will take place on Friday.
Playing Friday in Class D pre-quarterfinal matches are No. 12 Silver Creek, which will travel to No. 5 Olmsted, and No. 6 North Collins, which will host No. 11. Sherman. In a Class B pre-quarterfinal, No. 14 Lake Shore travels to No. 3 Cheektowaga.
Also in pre-quarterfinal action on Friday, the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies, the No. 11 seed in Class C, will travel to take on No. 6 Wilson.
If the Black Knights win Friday, they would play the winner of No. 13 International Prep and No. 4 Portville while a win by North Collins would pit them against either No. 14 Clymer or defending New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D champion Ellicottville, which is the No. 3 seed.
Quarterfinal action in Class B, Class C and Class D will be played, at the higher seed, on Oct. 29 while the semifinals will be played on Nov. 1, also at the higher seed.
The finals in Class AA and Class A will be played on Nov. 4, at Sweet Home High School. The Class A final will take place at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the Class AA final. Sectional finals in Class C and Class B will be played on Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. and 8, respectively. The Class D final will be held at Jamestown Community College on Nov. 4, at 6 p.m.
