Forestville slips past Panama

PANAMA – The ninth-seeded Forestville Lady Hornets (13-6) snuck past host and eighth-seeded Panama (12-7) in five sets in Section 6 Class D prequarterfinal girls volleyball Thursday.

The final set scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-22.

For Forestville, Alisha Szumigala notched 11 kills, six blocks, four assists and nine digs; Lizzy Gilman had four aces, seven kills, four blocks and seven digs; Sierra Tweedie had 10 kills, two aces and 29 digs; and Ashley Van Buskirk added 16 assists, six digs and one ace in the victory.

For the Lady Panthers, Carly Abate recorded nine kills, 17 assists, eight aces, and 15 points; Taylor Bowen had seven kills, 15 assists, two aces and 13 points; Brittany Lenart added eight kills, three blocks, four digs, three aces, seven points while Kalli Davenport had five kills, two blocks and three aces.

The Lady Hornets will now face off on the road against second-seeded Chautauqua Lake in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
