Low water pressure Saturday due to repairs

The city of Dunkirk water maintenance crew will shut down the Fourth Ward Booster Station on Benton Street for repairs on Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. and running until noon. Water pressure will be noticeably lower in this area during the repairs.

Also on Saturday, water maintenance crews will be working in the area of Point Drive North and West Chestnut Street. Water will be shut off at 9:30 a.m. until approximately 12:30 p.m. to allow for replacement of a water valve.

The city apologizes for any inconvenience.

Spaghetti dinner in Cherry Creek Saturday to benefit programs

The Chautauqua Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars Sr. Vice Commander Tom Rabb and Sr.Vice President Robin Richmond will be having a spaghetti dinner to help with their programs when they become commander/president in 2014.

The dinner will be held at the Pine Valley Post 2522 in Cherry Creek on Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m. Dinner includes salad, spaghetti and meat sauce, bread and dessert for a donation of $6. The public is welcome and take-outs are available. A money raffle will be held. For more information, call Pat at 341-1328

Fredonia beginning leaf collection

The village of Fredonia is starting bagged and loose leaf collection.

Loose leaves may be raked to the curb and bagged leaves placed at the curb. No brush or limbs will be collected at this time.

Residents are reminded that leaves may not be raked into the street at any time and fines for doing so are possible.

Access 5 in Fredonia to re-air Halloween parade today

Public Access Channel 5 in Fredonia will rebroadcast Saturday’s Halloween Costume Parade in the village of Fredonia today at 6 p.m.

The parade is also available for viewing online at www.youtube.com/user/Access5Fredonia.

Ripley Free Library to hold auction Saturday

The Ripley Free Library will hold its annual Silent Auction on Saturday. Bidding begins at noon, and the final tables will close at 6 p.m. Items up for auction include a painter’s basket, toys and games, a lamp, pictures, themed baskets, items for men and women, gift certificates and a portable DVD player. There will also be a bake sale.

Help with yard work and odd jobs

Westfield residents needing help with yard work and odd jobs are asked to call the Westfield Recreation Department at 326-4243 for assistance in arranging for a local teen to help.

NYAPT to cite Senator Catharine Young today

The New York Association for Pupil Transportation will present its 2013 Legislator of the Year award to Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) at a press event to be held at 11:30 a.m. today in Albany.

The location for the event is the Senator’s Olean office located at 700 W. State St., between 6th and 7th Street.

In addition to presenting Senator Young with the award, NYAPT will discuss the growing problem of illegal passing of school buses and describe how legislation introduced by Senator Young to allow stop arm cameras on school buses will assist in addressing the problem.
