Clerk’s office needs to have leadership

By LORI CORNELL

I am running for Chautauqua County clerk to serve the people of Chautauqua County on a full-time, countywide basis in a position that well-utilizes my strengths in organizational leadership and proactive approach to local government. I am running for county clerk to make an important difference for you.

Although my opponent has inaccurately described me as a “career politician,” I can think of nothing I’d rather do than to work on behalf of our community and to help make a difference in people’s lives.

When it comes to leadership, I not only hold a master’s degree in leadership and have been well-trained in human resource management, but I have held numerous leadership positions both professionally and via community-based organizations for more than 20 years. Most recently, I served as minority leader of the County Legislature and my proactive record of bipartisan policy initiatives speaks for itself.

I think Peter Drucker, famed management consultant for whom the Drucker Institute is named, explained it best. Drucker contends that many people are managers, but not leaders. He defines leadership as the ability to “inspire and motivate.” He is often quoted as saying: “Management is doing things right. Leadership is doing the right things.”

As a manager, I will plan, organize and carry out the important operations of the clerk’s office. But more importantly, as a leader, I will provide the motivation necessary to encourage and support the dedicated staff in the clerk’s office and the DMVs. I am a team player and would value the hard work, historic knowledge and staff input for improved operations and the most productive, enjoyable workplace possible. You can’t have customer satisfaction without employee satisfaction.

Whether it be at the DMVs, the recording office, or the Bureau of Weights and Measures, I will provide taxpayers with the services they deserve, but in the most cost-efficient manner. By utilizing ever-changing technology and innovation, I will streamline the services of the county clerk’s office to provide the people of the county with a savings.

I am an honest leader you can trust and have the energy and dedication to provide you with the services you deserve at the lowest possible cost.
