Breast cancer uplifting awareness event held
The Chautauqua Center of Dunkirk recently held its first Uplifting Breast Cancer awareness event at the SUNY Fredonia Incubator. Activities included decorating bra templates provided by the center for a chance to win prizes. Dunkirk native and fashion designer, Amy Kuschel Brugger of San Francisco, Calif., donated the elegant fabric pieces and material to decorate the templates.
Guest speaker, Kerri Mihalko from Roswell Park Cancer Institute, spoke about the warning signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and measures to reduce the chances of getting it.
Guests entered a silent auction for items donated by local businesses including: Big Daddy’s Lounge, Mary’s Deli, Tim Horton’s, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Family Video, Zoom Tan, China King Buffet, Curves, Finishing Touch, Cutting Crew, Kirk’s Jewelers, Clarion Hotel, Central Station Restaurant, Whispers Boutique, Main Wine and Spirits, and Fresh and Fancy Flower and Gifts.
The Chautauqua Center hopes to make this an annual event to educate the public about breast cancer.
