Cherry Creek Fire Auxiliary Holiday Auction planned for Thursday and Dec. 12

The annual Holiday Auc-tion to benefit the Cherry Creek Fire Auxiliary with auctioneer Ron Hennigh will take place Thursday and Dec. 12 at the Cherry Creek Fire Hall at 6 p.m.

Refreshments will be available for purchase. Food items will be collected for the Food Pantry and new toys will be collected for the Salvation Army.

Veterans Day Service today in Silver Creek

The Silver Creek Samuel Cimino VFW Post 6472 will hold a Veterans Day service today at 11 a.m. at the post, 13 Main St., Silver Creek.

There will be a service, a military gun salute and light refreshments to follow.

Veterans Day Dinner

to be held today

American Legion Post 409/Amvets Post 409 will sponsor a Veterans Day dinner today at 100 Legion Drive in Gowanda. The bar will be open for cocktails at 5:30 p.m., with a prime rib dinner buffet at 6 p.m. The first drink is free. Tickets are $10 presale and $15 at the door. For more information, call 532-3592.

The Dunkirk-Fredonia Lions Club will meet today at 6 p.m. at the White Inn in Fredonia. Sally Minchener of the Chautauqua Blind Association will discuss client services, teaching techniques and equipment use for the blind. The public is welcome to attend. Sheridan Memorial VFW Post 6390 to host Veterans Day breakfast

The Sheridan Memorial VFW Post 6390 is hosting a Veterans Day breakfast today from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Any veteran is welcome to attend with his or her family. The Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 11:05 a.m. The Sheridan VFW is located at 2556 Main Road (Route 20).

City Hall closed today

Dunkirk City Hall is closed today in observance of Veterans Day.

Leaf pickup in city starts Tuesday

The city of Dunkirk Public Works Department has announced leaf pickup will begin with a citywide sweep beginning Tuesday.

Leaves can be in bags or barrels or loose at the curb. If leaves are left loose at the curb, residents are asked to keep leaves clear of receivers and utility poles and out of the street. If leaves are in bags, residents are asked to leave the bags untied.

Leaves in bags or barrels will be picked up first and a crew will follow to pick up the loose leaves. Crews will begin in District C and go on to districts D, A and B.

Cassadaga Branch Library Association meets today

The Cassadaga Branch Library Association will meet today at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the Cassadaga Branch Library. Guest speaker will be dietician Kerry Mihalko.

Healthcare reform

seminar Wednesday

Sham Bahgat, director at Bahgat & Laurito-Bahgat, will present a seminar on healthcare reform on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Fredonia High School Auditorium. The seminar will teach how businesses and individuals are being impacted by the new healthcare reform. The seminar will help individuals understand how they may benefit from the reform or minimize its impact on you, your business or family. Board of Health meeting Thursday

The Chautauqua County Board of Health will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. in the HRC fourth floor conference room, Mayville. The board will consider amending the Sanitary Code of Chautauqua County to prohibit the use of tobacco, tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and herbal cigarettes on all real property owned or leased by the county. There will also be a discussion of the bylaws.
