Plattsburgh, Potsdam visit Steele Hall ice rink this weekend

Fredonia State’s annual visit from the two SUNYAC North Country opponents takes place this weekend at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

The Plattsburgh Cardinals come to town for tonight’s game as the No. 3 ranked team in the NCAA Division III poll. In addition, the Cardinals are ranked No. 1 by

“It doesn’t take any amount of energy or preparation to to get mentally ready to play this game,” Fredonia State head coach Jeff Meredith said. “Obviously Fredonia-/Plattsburgh has always been a big game in our history and I wouldn’t expect (Friday night) would be any different.”

The Cardinals were favored to win the 2013-14 SUNYAC title in the pre-season poll of conference coaches. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils were chosen for fifth and the Potsdam Bears – Saturday’s opponent – were picked for seventh. The Bears visit Buffalo State on Friday night.

Both Blue Devil games this weekend begin at 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale one hour prior to faceoff.

The Blue Devils bring a 1-1 SUNYAC record into the weekend. They are 1-2 overall, including a 2-0 loss to non-conference opponent SUNY Canton last Friday.

“I think a valid question might be, ‘Where is our team at right now? … Where is our team mentally, where are we physically, and what can we expect in the future?’ The answer to that question is this: As coaches and players, I think we’re really, really positive. We feel that we’re doing some real good things. We feel that we could potentially have a championship-caliber group.

“With that being said, we have to continue to build each day at practice and to continue to develop. Early signs so far this season are we love what we see in terms of work habits, practice. play and attitude. There’s a lot of real positives here and we just need to eliminate a few bugs out of our game.”
