United Senior Citizens honors its veterans
The United Senior Citizens recently held its monthly catered luncheon meeting at the Fredonia Beaver Club with 93 members in attendance.
President Charles St. George introduced Jeri Wiedenhofer as a new member. He then introduced guests Jerry and Elaine Bentham, Sue Ann Carlson and Dr. Sally Ann St. George from Calgary, Canada. President St. George then led the Pledge of Allegiance. It was followed by the invocation by Father Walter Werbicki.
Prior to the luncheon, President St. George called up all the veterans and introduced them to the crowd. They were celebrated with loud and enthusiastic applause. He mentioned that due to illness, four member veterans, Charles Alaimo, John Binko, Cedio Gizzi and Sam Sasso were unable to attend the luncheon. St. George commented on veteran Nick Andin, who came smartly dressed in his full Navy dress uniform.
The 50/50 raffle winners were Leo Bain, Anita Brown, Barb Centner, Josephine Christopher (Fredonia), Ann Cohen, Mickey Colicchia, Joan Guzik, Nancy St. George, Sophia Urbanik and Josephine Wierczynski.
The November calling committee was thanked for the efforts of its members. They were Dorothy Hilliker, Wierczynski, Pat Ebert, Ann Kaminski, Pat Smith and Jean Morse.
The calling committee for the December Christmas party will be Ebert, Olive Rusch, Mickey Colicchia, Carlson, Hilliker and Wierczynski.
Those who celebrated birthdays in November were Binko, Joanna Brown, Rose Cerrie, Sandy Mitchell, Nancy St. George, Judy Siragusa, Mary Tripi and Jeri Wiedenhofer.
President St. George announced that the next meeting will be the annual Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 9. The cost will be $5 for members who have paid their 2014 dues. For guests and others, the cost will be $10.
The menu will include ham, scalloped potatoes, buttered corn, tossed salad, bread, dessert and coffee. Prior to the luncheon, hors d’oeuvres of cheese and pepperoni, a veggie tray and fruit punch will be served.
The December meeting/luncheon will be the last time the organization meets until March of 2014. Dues for 2014 are now being collected. Dues remain $3 per year.
Following the meeting, Bingo was hosted by Phyllis Laurito and Cerrie.
