NCCS 25 St. John Vianney 9 – The NCCS Lady Monarchs varsity basketball team opened their season with a win at the Immaculata Invitational Tournament.

Katie Price led the way with eight points, followed by Mackenzie Markham with seven and Hannah Gullo with five. Alison Cortes and Josslyn Strang also scored for NCCS. Playing in their first varsity games were Sydni Condoyannis and Monica Pokoj. Both played well on defense.

For St. John Vianney, Emma Dillon had three points.

NCCS 30, Nativity of our Lord 23 – In the second round of the Immaculata Invitational Tournament, the Lady Monarchs defeated the two-time defending Diocesan champion behind a 16-point effort from Mackenzie Markham.

Also leading the way for NCCS were Katie Price with eight points and Hannah Gullo added a pair of 3-pointers late in the game to cushion the Lady Monarch’s lead.

For Nativity of Our Lord, Danielle Hore had 17 points.

WNYAHL Bantam Travel

NCCYHA Steelers 6, Cazenovia Chiefs 2 – The Steelers took to the road in Cazenovia, winning 6-2.

Mike Meredith had the hat trick while Dawson Rafan, Luke Mleczko and Chris Buchanan chipped in with a goal each while Christian Michalski added an assist.

Nicholas Merlino was in goal.

The Steelers travel to play the Niagara Purple Eagles at 5 p.m., on Nov. 24 at Dwyer Arena.

Heenan’s 4, Pick-UPS 4 – Don Fadale scored a pair of goals while Greg McQuiggan and Bryon Vanzile each added a goal for Heenan’s. Assists were credited to McQuiggan, Jeffrey Huyck (two), Derek Sheridan and Matt Wronski. Gary Shain was between the pipes.

The Pick-UPS received goals from Joe Furhmann, Mike Gzyl, Tim Zugger and Garrett Wrap. Dan Minich and Gyzl recored assists while Dave Stefaniak was in net.

Fredonia State Baseball Team to Host

High School Clinic

The Fredonia State baseball team is hosting a clinic for high school athletes on Sunday, Feb. 15. The pitching and catching clinic runs from 10 a.m to 12:30 p.m., and the hitting and defense clinic runs from 1-3:30 p.m. in Steele Hall. The cost of the clinic is $40 for one clinic, or $65 for both. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.fredoniabluedevils.com, by following the link to baseball.

Kids’ Night Out

The Fredonia State baseball team will be hosting a Kids’ Night Out tonight in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse at the University.

The event, for grades 1 through 7, runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Registration is $10 at the door. Activities and swimming will be supervised by members of the team.

History Book to

Be Unveiled Nov. 30

The history of Gowanda football book “Through The Eyes Of A Panther” will be unveiled at the Gowanda VFW Club on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 6-10 pm.

An open house will welcome former high school and youth coaches, players, cheerleaders, team managers and their guests.

Viewing of vintage game films and football memorabilia plus complimentary refreshments will be included during the event.
