Ralph D. Goulding

Ralph D. Goulding, 88, of Dunkirk died Thursday morning (Nov. 14, 2013) at home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Fredonia, the son of the late Frank D. and Mary (Dekanski) Goulding.

Mr. Goulding graduated from Dunkirk High School, Class of 1943. He attended SUNY Fredonia and later transferred to Buffalo State College, from which he graduated in 1953.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a member of an Air Group aboard the newly commissioned aircraft carrier USS Randolph. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Mr. Goulding had been employed by Loblaws for 17 years and by Rite Aid for 21 years, retiring in 1992.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, birding and reading and was an avid Bills and Sabres fan.

He was a member of American Legion Post 434 in Brocton and a parishioner of St. Hyacinth’s Church.

Cherished husband of Winifred (Crowe); beloved father of Diana, Mark (Kathleen), Michael (Audrey) and Denise; loving grandfather of Diana Robin; dear brother of Ken, Jim, Phyllis and Mary Ann, and preceded in death by his brother, Richard and sister Jean.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery, Brocton. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial dona-tions may be made to Rural Ministry or to a charity of one’s choice.
