SAR to meet at Chatterbox Restaurant
Recently, members of the Chautauqua County Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution met at Friendly’s Restaurant in Jamestown.
Chapter President Steve Boothe opened the meeting with the Pledge of the Allegiance and closed with the SAR Pledge.
He gave a presentation about his recent trip to Boston, Mass., showing a number of photographs of the Battle of Bunker Hill site, the Old North Church, the gravesite of Samuel Adams, a statue in memory of John Hancock, and other historical sites along Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail features such sites as the Old South Church, Paul Revere’s home.
Member Doug Arters talked briefly about the Battle of Bunker Hill, fought at Breed’s Hill at Charlestown, Mass., in June of 1775. It was the first major battle of the Revolutionary War. General Joseph Warren was killed there.
Annual membership fees and paperwork may now be submitted for the upcoming 2014 year, managed by Treasurer Thomas Eckberg. Members of the SAR trace their ancestry back to a Revolutionary War soldier, militiaman, or minuteman. The SAR is headquartered in Louisville, Ky.
The next SAR meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Chatterbox Restaurant on the Fluvanna Avenue Ext. in Greenhurst. The restaurant accepts cash and checks for payment. Former members and guests are also welcome. For more information, call Arters at 490-3880 or Boothe at 574-7995.
