Cherry Creek Fire Auxiliary Holiday Auction Dec. 12

The annual Holiday Auction to benefit the Cherry Creek Fire Auxiliary with auctioneer Ron Hennigh will take place Dec. 12 at the Cherry Creek Fire Hall at 6 p.m.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

At the auction, food items will be collected for the Food Pantry, and new toys will be collected for the Salvation Army.

Dunkirk Town Board

to hold special meeting

The Town Board will hold a workshop and special meeting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 3, at the Town Hall on Willow Road.

The purpose of the workshop and meeting is to continue discussion of a comprehensive plan and any other business lawfully before the board.

Town of Dunkirk offices closed Thursday

The Town of Dunkirk town offices and Justice Court will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

The offices will reopen on Monday at 9 a.m.

South Dayton Holiday Craft Show & Turkey Biscuit Lunch to be held Dec. 7

The South Dayton Holiday Craft Show & Turkey Biscuit Lunch will be held at the South Dayton Firemen’s Activity Hall at 34 Maple St. on Dec. 7.

A craft show will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Santa visits from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (bring your camera for pictures); and the turkey biscuit lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The cost for lunch is $7 for adults and $5 for children.

Fredonia Middle School Winter Concert Dec. 4

The Fredonia Middle School will hold its annual Winter Concert on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Fredonia Central Schools District Auditorium.

Musical selections will be performed by the M.S. Jazz Ensemble, the Choraliers, the Junior Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra, the Mixed Chorus, Beginning Band and the Concert Band.

Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.

Vendor tables available at upcoming Dunkirk Senior Center

rummage/bake sale

Plans are being made for an indoor rummage/bake sale to be held at the Dunkirk Senior Center on Feb. 15.

Vendor tables can be rented for $15 by contacting Dunkirk Senior Citizen Board of Directors President Barbara Bajdas at the Center at 366-7530.

City Hall closed Thursday

Dunkirk City Hall will be closed Thursday in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

There will be no rubbish pickup on Thursday. The Thursday rubbish pickup zone will be collected on Friday and the Friday pickup zone will be collected Saturday.

‘Cooking with Nick’ presents ‘Pasta Puttanesca’ this weekend

Nick Rizzo, a local chef from Mayville, returns for an all-new second season of cooking programs. The upcoming show is entitled “Pasta Puttanesca.”

The program will air on Access Channel 5 at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. each day, beginning Saturday and ending on Dec. 6.

Rizzo makes fresh spinach and white bean salad, pasta ala puttanesca, 3-cheese spicy garlic toasts and mini-fruit trifles for dessert. Chef Rizzo stresses that the meal can be prepared in about one hour.

The cable program is carried in the following communities: Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman and Westfield.

All cable viewers in the mentioned area can receive Access Channel 5, which is now digital, at channel 5 on a converter, or channel 21.4 on a flat-panel TV with no converter.

In the event that the channel no longer comes in, the subscriber should contact Time Warner Cable.

Access Channel 5 programming is also aired each evening in the town of Hanover on Cable Channel 12 or Digital Channel 98.3.

County Antique Equipment Association meets tonight

The Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association will meet today 7 p.m. at the Laona Methodist Church, Porter and Wilson Streets, Laona. This will be the election meeting.

Reservations will be accepted for the Dec. 3 Christmas Party at the Stockton Fire Hall.

No Preschool Story Hour Wednesday, Friday

Preschool Story Hour at the Sinclairville Free Library will not meet on Wednesday or Friday.

The library will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Pomfret water district residents reminded to inform town of status

Town of Pomfret residents connecting to the North End Water District waterlines, including West Main Street, Route 60, East Main Street, McAllister Road, Wilson Road, Porter Road and Webster Road, are being advised that their outside and inside plumbing must be inspected and approved by the town in order to have their water turned on and a meter installed.

The installation will be performed by the North End Water District Contractor, S. St. George Enterprises. Final connections are being made during the weeks of Dec. 2 and Dec. 9.

Pomfret offices to be closed for Thanksgiving

The Pomfret Town Clerk’s office will be closed Wednesday. The entire town hall will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

Gas prices rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 4.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.59/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester.

This compares with the national average that has increased 5.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.26/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 25.0 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 0.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has decreased 5.4 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 17.4 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
