Team effort lifts Gowanda past North Collins

GOWANDA – The Gowanda Lady Panthers (1-0) received a complete-team effort in knocking down the North Collins Lady Eagles, 55-28, Tuesday in non-league girls high school basketball.

Jess Sowa led the way with 11 points while Da:’Di’ Jones contributed with nine points and five steals.

Rikki George pulled down 10 rebounds as the Lady Panthers held a commanding 33-19 advantage on the boards.

Gowanda opened the game with a 10-3 run and held a 24-12 halftime edge, before running away with the win.

Arrika Bley led the Lady Eagles with 14 points.

“With it being our first game, my core of girls is up from jayvee, so I was pretty happy about it,” Gowanda coach Kate Bailey said. “Jess Sowa stepped up. She was more of a defensive player last year. Da:’Di’ Jones stepped up on defense and then hit some big 3s.

The Lady Panthers return to action Dec. 3 when they host the Dunkirk Lady Marauders.
