The Lake Shore Community Chapel

The Lake Shore Community Chapel at 4552 W. Main Road in Fredonia will welcome the Christmas season this Sunday with the “Hanging of the Green.” The church congregation will join in singing carols and in decorating the Christmas tree and auditorium for Christmas.

This will be followed by the youth performing a puppet play entitled “The Chief’s Eyes.” The play was written by Raughnsen Payne and is based on the true story of Dr. White, who went to Africa as a missionary. The story takes place during the holidays.

The service will conclude with Pastor Byron Lutz’s message titled “Messiah: More Than The Birth of a Baby.”

Blessed Mary Angela Rosary Society Christmas party

The Blessed Mary Angela Rosary Society Christmas party will be held Monday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. at St. Hedwig’s Social Center on Townsend St. in Dunkirk. All members are encouraged to attend.

St. Dominic’s Altar & Rosary Society raffles quilt

The Altar & Rosary Society of St. Dominic Parish, with sites in Westfield and Brocton, is holding a raffle for a quilt designed and hand-stitched by Society members. Raffle tickets are $2 each and can be purchased from any Society member, or call Anna Marie June at 326-3570. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to finance the many endeavors planned by the Altar & Rosary Society for the good of the Parish for the upcoming year. The drawing for the quilt will be held Dec. 4.

Taize services

Monthly Taize services are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First United Presbyterian Church in Silver Creek. All are welcome to attend.

Trinity Lutheran Advent Services

Trinity Lutheran Church will sponsor special services during Advent. A Wednesday prayer circle begins every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. This is a devotional time for people to come together to pray for individual and community needs. In these troubling times, the church wishes to offer an opportunity to gather for meditation, hymns and prayer. The Rev. Travis Grubbs leads this prayer time.

In addition Wednesday Advent services will be held on December 4, 11 and 18. Worship will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. The theme for these services will be “Child of Promise.” Old Testament scripture readings will be examined in anticipation of the coming birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Following the worship service, a luncheon will be served in the parish hall. The luncheon is free to the public and all are invited as the parish prepares the way of the Lord. The church is located at 15 Porter Avenue in Silver Creek.

‘Craft Show & Cookie Walk’

Dec 7., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cherry Creek/Leon United Methodist Church on Main St. in Cherry Creek will hold a “Craft Show & Cookie Walk.” Crafters, artisans and vendors will offer great gifts and items at affordable prices. Santa will visit from 10 a.m. to noon. Homemade cookies are $3.75 per dozen. There will be a lovely winter village display and a chili/soup luncheon available.

Rural Ministry thanks anonymous donor

The Chautauqua County Rural Ministry was the recipient of 133 turkeys, gifted by an anonymous donor known only as “Lee.” Lee has requested that the donation is “In Loving Memory of Mark Allen Sam.” The Ministry thanks this donor for his or her generosity of spirit during this season of giving.

St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society Dessert Card Party

St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society will hold a Dessert Card Party at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 in the Gathering Room of St. Joseph’s Church at 145 E. Main St. in Fredonia. Reservations are appreciated, but not required. Call 679-1677. Leave a message if no one answers.

‘Beef Tips & Noodles’ dinner

St. John’s United Church of Christ on Central Avenue in Dunkirk will hold a “Beef Tips & Noodles” dinner on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Presale tickets are $7.50; $8 at the door. Eat-in or take-out. Call 366-0710 for information and reservations.
