Delphine Przytula, 90, of Dunkirk, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, following a lengthy illness, at the Chautauqua County Home.
She was born July 12, 1923, in Dunkirk, daughter of the late Felix and Theresa (Pazderski) Polasik.
A graduate of Dunkirk High School, in 1981 Delphine fulfilled a lifetime dream by completing her bachelor’s degree through Empire State College.
Prior to her retirement in 1976, she had worked as a bookkeeper for P.H. Carlyon Plumbing & Heating, Meister Contracting, Office Concepts, the Schoolhouse 2 and her husband’s television repair business. She also owned and operated a dollhouse and miniature business from 1984 to 1993, out of her home on Van Buren Road.
Delphine was an avid reader and writer. Her in-depth manuscript of the history and collapse of Brooks Locomotive Co./American Locomotive Co./ALCO Products Inc., was donated to the Dunkirk Historical Society.
Her memberships include St. Joseph R. C. Church in Fredonia, where she served as a volunteer and officer in the Altar and Rosary Society.
She enjoyed playing the role of “Miss Church Mouse,” in the church’s mission week play, “The Trial.” She had also served as a volunteer and officer in the Chautauqua County Home Auxiliary and AARP Chapter #299. Talented in many crafts, she donated her work to St. Joseph Church, the County Home Auxiliary and numerous other charity organizations. During WWII, she was a volunteer nurse’s aide at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are her sons Robert (Bonnie) Peters of Nampa, Idaho and Donald (Jacqueline) Przytula of Wappingers Falls, NY; a granddaughter, Rachel (Jeremy) Woods of NYC; and great-granddaughter Victoria.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Al Przytula; a sister, Alice Lis; and grandson, Russell Przy-tula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning at 10 o’clock in St. Joseph R. C. Church in Fredonia. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chautauqua County Home Auxiliary, 10836 Temple Road, Dunkirk, NY 14048 or St. Joseph R.C. Church in Fredonia.
