Dunkirk Elks Lodge to hold Annual Hoop Shoot contest

The Dunkirk Elks Lodge will hold its annual Hoop Shoot Contest on Saturday, Dec. 7. The contest will be held at the Dunkirk High School Auxiliary Gym (Marauder Drive entrance) between 9 a.m. and noon.

The contest is open to all boys and girls in three age groups – 8-9; 10-11 and 12-13.

All contestants must have a copy of their birth certificate with them in order to participate.

Bills Boosters

The Southern Tier Bills Booster Club will watch the Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game on Sunday at the First Ward Falcon Club.

Roast beef sandwiches will be provided at halftime. Members may bring a dish to pass.

Bowling for Smiles

Operation Smile will hold bowling at Lucky Lanes on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include two games and shoes. Anyone interested should contact Megan Favale at

Gowanda football

history book available to the public

After a successful unveiling at the Gowanda VFW Club on Saturday, Nov. 30, the book titled: Through The Eyes of a Panther: The History of Gowanda Football 1961-1992 is now available to the public.

Numerous stories in the book cover the long-time rivalry of the Panthers against Southwestern Conference opponents Fredonia and Dunkirk, plus Gowanda’s connection to the Cardinal Mindszenty football program.

Dom Polski 3

Matt Ginley and Cory Dziduch had a pair of goals each for P-Dubs while Kevin Salemi, Justin Giles, Jerry Tramuta and Eric Tarnowski all added a goal each. Assists were credited to Josh Polak (three), Giles (two), John Polak, Derek Sheridan, Dziduch and Chris Shur. A.J. Riforgiat picked up the win between the pipes.

Dom Polski was led by goals from Byron Vanzile, Chris Mulkin and Zach Sliwa while assists went to Matt Mincin, Brandon Renckens and Jeff Carlson.

CCHA B Leagye

Wicked Glen 9, Heenan’s 3

Brian Denea had a hat trick and two assists to help lead Wicked Glen past Heenan’s while Sean Strickler added four goals and an assist. Also scoring for Wicked Glen were James Azarella and Bill Clark, with assits going to James Atzott, Kevin Smith, Chris Shur and Azarella. Mike Barret was in net for the win.

Byron Vanzile had a pair of goals for Heenan’s in the loss while Mike Rozewicz added the other goal. Dave Wright picked up an assist while Gary Shain was in net.

CCHA C League

Beaver Club 5,

Team VI 1

Ed Paluch, Tom Block, Carl Abrams, Chris Leysath and Tim Kachelmeyer scored for the Beaver Club while assists went to Greg Krauza (two), Kirk Miller and Brad Meyers. Shane Randolph picked up the win between the pipes.

John Boner scored Team 6’s lone goal with the assist going to Ken Shearer.

Wicked Glen 4,

Team VI 3

Kerry Meyer had a pair of goals and Kevin Brooks and Steve Olson one each as Wicked Glen skated to a win over Team 6.

Assists went to Brooks (two), Eric Williams and Olson. Nate Williams was the winning goalie.

For Team 6, goals were scored by John Boner, Nick Bailey and Joe Shearer while Garrett Boner was credited with two assists. Ken Shearer was in net.
