Crandall, Hanlon lift?Dunkirk past Gowanda, 44-26

GOWANDA – Dunkirk’s duo of Maddie Crandall and Sarah Hanlon combined to outscore the Gowanda Lady Panthers (1-1) alone in a 44-26 victory for the Lady Marauders (1-1) on Tuesday in non-league girls high school basketball.

Crandall scored a game-high 16 points and Hanlon added 11.

The Lady Marauders outscored the home team 11-4 in the first quarter and increased the lead, 24-12 by halftime.

“We didn’t come out ready to play,” Gowanda coach Kate Bailey said. “We always seem to start slow. We just couldn’t crawl our way back. We expected it to be a growing season and this is part of our growing pains.”

Hanlon added six rebounds while Crandall had five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Alexis Clark contributed in the win with 13 rebounds, three blocks and five steals.

The Lady Panthers received nine points, five steals and six rebounds from Rae White. Jess Sowa had six points, eight rebounds and four steals in a losing effort.

“This game is always intense when we play Dunkirk,” Bailey said. “They are in your face and that’s what you can expect from Dunkirk. It was nice to see a different caliber of play to get us ready for league play.”

Gowanda returns to action this week when it takes part in the Silver Creek Hae Jude Tournament.
