Lady Thunderbirds slow Maycock, win?Westfield Tip-Off Tourney

WESTFIELD – The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds were able to do something not many teams across Western New York have been able to do.

Slow down Randolph’s McKenna Maycock.

The standout player for the Lady Cardinals had just eight points as the Lady Thunderbirds prevailed, 52-37 in the championship game of the Westfield Tip-Off Tournament.

Chautauqua Lake’s Jenna Einink scored 16 points and added 17 rebounds, four steals and three blocks on her way to being named Tournament MVP.

The Lady Cardinals got out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter, but Chautauqua Lake took a 21-19 lead into halftime.

In the decisive fourth quarter, the Lady Thunderbirds outscored Randolph, 20-10 to run away with the win.

Ashton Albanesius contributed in the win with 14 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. Courtney Hewes had nine points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists for the winners.

Peyton Terette was Randolph’s leading scorer with 13 points. She also had four rebounds while Maycock had three steals and eight rebounds.

In the consolation game, Clymer prevailed, 48-27, behind Becca King’s 11 points, four steals and two assists.

After a tightly contested first quarter which saw Clymer hold a slim 13-11 lead, it outscored the host team, 9-3, in the second quarter for a 22-14 halftime lead. The Lady Pirates used a 16-8 third-quarter run to outscore the Lady Wolverines, 26-13 in the second half.

Breanna Summers contributed in the win with 10 points and four rebounds. Carli McAfoose had 10 rebounds and MJ Trisket pulled down eight boards for the winners.

The Lady Wolverines were led by Brenna Culbreth’s 13 points. Lindsay Harp had four rebounds and as many blocks while Carson Hauser had four assists and two rebounds in a losing effort.

The All-Tournament team consisted of Maycock, Terette, Albanesius, Hewes and McAfoose.
