Gowanda to cancel second monthly meeting

GOWANDA – The Gowanda Village Board has decided to not have a second meeting during December. Normally, the village board meets regularly on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Since the second meeting will fall on Christmas Eve, Mayor Heather McKeever suggested the board cancel the meeting and just have one meeting in December. The first meeting will be on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. and will be the only meeting for the board before the end of the year. If the board were to come across business that had to be taken care of before Jan. 1, a special meeting would be called.

A moment of silence was held in memory of New York State Trooper Ross Riley who passed away in a training exercise. Riley had worked on rescues in Zoar Valley.

Residents were reminded to keep fire hydrants clear of snow during the winter months. The board also approved a bid from Global Environment for $11,250 for five days at eight hours per day.

Trustee Paul Zimmermann said the Gowanda Fire Department is looking into selling laser-engraved bricks to raise money for a firemen’s memorial. More details will be given at a later date.
