WPCL wins opener over Randolph, 51-33

MAYVILLE – The combined Westfield-Panama-Chautauqua Lake (1-0) wrestling team opened its season with a 51-33 win over CCAA Division II foe Randolph (0-1) on Wednesday.

Trent Howard, wrestling at 138 pounds and Roger Williams (145) opened the match with pins for the Panthers while teammate Kale Gilbert won his match at 152 by decision.

“It was a good start to the year,” WPCL coach Brad Rowe said. “I know Randolph just came off their football state championship, so they had a short time to prepare. But coach Todd Conley always does a good job getting them ready.”

Howard won his match in 5:37 over Ben Clinger, Williams pinned Randall Oyer in 1:32 and Gilbert won 7-5 over Marshall Johnson.

Elsewhere, for the Panthers, Zack Reyes (170) pinned Ben Hvizdzak in 2:43, Dominique Rammelt pinned Devin Ling in 1:08 to take the match at 182 and Nick Hudson (126) won by fall over Noah Spain in 1:01.

Tyler Furlow (195), Derek Ecklund (106) and Mark Ecklund (132) all won by forfeit for WPCL.

For Randolph, Chris Doubek (160) pinned WPCL’s Dylan Gross in 52 seconds, Dennis Andrews (220) pinned Alex Swan in 5:19, Patrick Kibbe won in 2:32 over D.J. Hamrick and Mathew Evans (99) pinned Andrew Luba in 1:16.

Also for the Cardinals, Dakota Parkhurst won a 13-6 decision over Bryce Rowe in the match at 113 and Tristan Holdridge pinned Noah Dorman in 3:41 to win the match at 120.

Catt.-LV-PVCS drops Portville, 69-15

Cattaraugus-Little?Valley-Pine Valley cruised past Portville 69-15 in CCAA?Division II wrestling action, on Wednesday.

Ryan Thierman pinned the Timberwolves’ Adolf Zollinger in 3:37 to win the match at 126-pounds, but it was all down hill from there for the Panthers, as Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley took 12 of the next 13 matches to earn the victory.

Austin Genberg (132) won a 10-7 decision over Riley Rockwood, Gabe Grey (138) pinned Zander Smith in 1:41, and Randy Grey (152) pinned Robert Wheeler in 2:44, before the Panthers’ Jayce Freeborn (152) defeated Dylan Rhinehart, 8-2, to briefly interrupt the streak.

Then, the Timberwolves reeled off nine straight wins, including Alex Stalker’s pin of James Monahan in 3:41 in the match at 160. Also for Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley, Caleb Wares (170) pinned Alexx Quattrone in 1:43, Alex Kelly (182) pinned William Hackenberg in 1:56 and Billy?Fleming (195) pinned Mike McFarland in 55 seconds.

Mike Stalker (220), Nate Strawder (285), Michael Grey (99), Sam Grey (106) and Courtney Fleming (113) all won by forfeit.

The Panthers’ Nick Kozlowski (120) finished the meet with a forfeit win for the 69-15 final.
