Plowing: Giving credit on rough day

Many motorists were quick to criticize the municipal snowplow operators for the problems on local roads.

But those behind that squeaky wheel need to give it a brake. In a three-hour period in Dunkirk-Fredonia nearly a foot of snow fell in the middle of the afternoon. That is no easy cleanup – even for the next six hours.

So Dunkirk and Fredonia put a travel ban into effect while operators did their best to clear the way.

In all, the major routes were in fair shape while side streets were similar to parking lots that left some cars stranded until around 9 p.m.

This corner can be critical of our local workers. What happened Wednesday afternoon was a snowfall this region has missed out on for the last three years.

Everyone was back in business Thursday morning. That’s a result of good work by all the crews – state, county and municipal departments.
