Remembering school in Laona

I always think of the times that I went to school in Laona, back in the ’30s and ’40s, so this puts the time as long ago.

Each year we would have a Christmas play in the largest room. Mr. Edward Till was the teacher and he took pride in his ability to have us perform the live Nativity scene with angels, shepherds, and the three kings.

When I was in his class, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, it was something to look forward to each year.

In addition to the Nativity scene, he would often have a Christmas play with a family celebrating – as best they could – in the particular era the play was presented.

I remember walking from my home to school with my mom and dad the night of the performance with snow up to our knees.
