Pump?It Up!?holds annual Turkey Trot for charity
For the second year, Fredonia’s Annual Cold Turkey 5k was held on Thanksgiving morning. The race began at Pump It Up! And ended on Day Street in Fredonia. It was a 5k run or a 1.5-mile walk. Cheryl Tabone, owner of Pump It Up!, hosted the annual race to help support her local non-profit called “Kids in Sports.” With more than 300 attending this year’s race, Tabone is hoping this will be a benchmark in Fredonia and Chautauqua County. She dedicated the race in memory of Damon Janes and all Boston Marathon runners by having each registrant receive a long sleeve T-shirt that was yellow with Blue writing symbolizing the colors of the Boston Marathon with a memory ribbon on the left arm with the date of the marathon, time of the bombing, and written “I am a runner” within the ribbon. The right arm was in memory of Janes. With permission from his family, she had printed his football number and his favorite saying, “Giving up is simply not an option!” Tabone’s local non profit Kids in Sports helps pay for kids to play sports by supporting these families financially for the sport they have chosen. Registration fees, competitions, uniform and other aspects are paid for by the organization. Anyone who would like to donate to Kids in Sports can through the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation/kids in Sports at NCCF@nccfoundation.org or www.active.com/donate/kidsinsports, or mail to Pump it Up/ Kids in sports, 355 Central Ave. Suite 7, Fredonia, NY 14063. The phone number is 672-6080. Also, shirts from the race are still available for $10 and proceeds will benefit Kids in Sports.
